Luctonians are proud to continue their commitment to community outreach and support through the installation of an emergency bleed control kit at the club.
This initiative began when Hilary Read, Trevor Bufton’s mum, got in touch just before Christmas. Hilary shared the story of a close friend who tragically lost her son, Dan, to knife crime in Birmingham in 2017. It is believed that if a bleed control kit had been available nearby, his life could have been saved.
Motivated to make a difference, Hilary set out to raise funds to help prevent similar tragedies. In August 2025, she climbed Mount Toubkal in Morocco, standing at 4,126 metres, to support her cause. Thanks to her efforts, she raised enough money to purchase two bleed boxes and four smaller kits.
Hilary chose Luctonians as the home for one of these kits, recognising the large number of people who pass through the club each day. By placing it here, she hopes to increase awareness and ensure that life-saving equipment is readily accessible in case of emergencies, whether from road accidents, sporting injuries or workplace injuries.
These kits are designed to treat severe bleeding, containing essential equipment to pack deep wounds. They are also registered with the ambulance service and will be restocked free of charge if used.
This initiative is supported by the Daniel Baird Foundation, which works tirelessly to improve public access to bleed control kits and raise awareness of their importance.
We would like to thank Hilary for donating the box. We hope it is never required, but understand the importance if it is.
