The Hospice Barbarians were founded in 2023 by Nick Nenadich. Set up to fulfil a love of rugby and a desire to ‘give something back’ to St Michael’s Hospice, Nick used all of his passion and drive to create an open, fast paced and entertaining squad made up of players from Herefordshire and south Shropshire. The Hospice Barbarians will play a single match each season, with all players, coaches and trainers giving their time up in order to raise money for our essential patient care across Herefordshire.
In 2023 Luctonians hosted the 1st ever Hospice Barbarians Match as well as hosting the pre-match lunch, Luctonians Senior Players provided the opposition.

The Barbarians team was made up of players from clubs within the Hospice’s catchment area, including Luctonians, Hereford, Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye and Ludlow.
Playing on their home Mortimer Park pitch it was Luctonians who ran out winners of the charity event.

St Michael’s Hospice was set up in 1982 and its purpose is to promote the relief of sickness in people over the age of 18 years who are Herefordshire residents or living in the immediate surrounding counties. It does this through the provision of high-quality hospice care both at its main hospice facility just outside Hereford and by visiting people at home. All its services are provided free of charge to users.
