Welcome to our Community Projects page.
Luctonians is committed to serving and supporting our local community. We believe it is our duty to use our platform and reach to support causes wherever possible.
At Luctonians we believe it is important to look towards the future and do our bit to ensure that we are kicking climate change into touch. We have an incredible reach within our local community and feel we can use this to an advantage. Our members, sponsors, and supporters are all doing their bit, so we feel it is important to do ours.
What are we doing – Our Green Commitments:
What are we doing to reduce single-use plastic?
Reuse – Second Hand Kit Shop – At the start of every season we operate a second hand kit sale, with kit from seniors and juniors being available to purchase at a very lost cost. This stops a large amount of kit being thrown into landfall. We also donate any leftover kit from travelling teams to local charity shops.
All of our rugby kit is repaired or repurposed so we can get the best of it. Tackle bags and sheets are repaired to ensure a long life.
Remove – in 2022 we removed all polyester food package containers from our kitchen and stopped using single plastic knives and forks. Where we can we try to reduce the usage of single containers, and tubs. We removed plastic straws from our bar and only used paper ones.
We have removed all single-use plastic cups from our bars and only use solid reusable ones.
Recycle – all of our general waste and recycling is sorted by our waste collector. As our clubhouse and outside bins become unusable we will look to replace them with recycling bins.
Adapt – since 2023 we have swapped over to an online match day programme, so we no longer print 4000 match day programmes every season. These are all single use, and were often out of date as soon as they were printed.
As an operations team we make a conscious effort to limit the amount of in house printing that we do, using email to send files and documents.
Since 2024 we have stopped printing membership letters and no send all communications via email or lucsline.
Champion initiatives in the local community
We ensure that our site is kept litter-free and we operate monthly litter picks to ensure that rubbish is disposed of correctly.
How can we reduce our carbon footprint?
Energy – As a club, we are aware that we have high energy usage. Multiple changing rooms, clubhouse, gym and floodlights all equate to high energy usage. We have solar panels on our clubhouse and in 2024 we added more energy-efficient panels. We only turn on lights in the clubhouse when they are being utilised.
As all hardware and lights are breaking we are updating them to be more energy-efficient.
Water – New Toilets and Boiler – in August 2023 our clubhouse toilets were refurbished. Within this refurbishment water saving taps were installed that turn off after a short period of time, resulting in less clean usable water being wasted. We also switched to hand dryers in all toilets to stop paper towels from being wasted.
In August 2024 we upgraded our new boiler. The new boiler is more energy-efficient.
Our pitches are 100% organic and watered with rain water collected in our bore hole.
Luctonians has always understood the importance of supporting health and well being as a club. In 2022 we established a Mental Health and Wellbeing action plan. As part of this plan a group of Luctonians Members were out on a MHFA Training Course. The course provided the delegates with the skills to be mental health first aiders. Delegates would gain an understanding of what mental health is and what factors can affect well-being. The courses provided the attendees with practical skills to spot the signs of mental health illness, they were also provided with key materials on how to help someone who needed assistance.
